Pre-design Studies
The study will look into two levels of analysis, namely, the macro site and micro contexts. Whilst the macro study is about the role and how the location fits into the city. In micro study, we are to make a comprehensive study on urban form, activity and movement-pattern. ‘Legibility Analysis’ and the other six qualities of a Responsive Environment. Also, we are to establish possible opportunities such as routes and attractions to sustain and to offer legibility by the project.
We are required to conduct and present the following pre-design studies:
1. Studies of the contextual conditions of your site
2. Studies on your selected user group and building types
3. Studies on the cultural and meaning place.
4. Studies on the current restrictions and proposed development on site and how it will affect the project and design.
And our given site is located at Jalan Maharani, Muar.

SYNOPSIS
Semester 6 forms the culmination of the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Architecture programme. This capstone project is based on the theme of architecture with a social impact and the resolution and integration of technology, environment and cultural context in architectural design. Progressing from the urban issues of urban street environment, the design studio extends students development of architectural position and design brief in proposing the strategy to improving conditions of the urban landscape/urban fabric focused on strengthening and empowering people’s appreciation of own culture and arts. Located in an urban area, students are to further develop the assigned site, into a place of interaction and connection of people, place, time and culture. Subsequently, students are to produce detailed design supported with a comprehensive design report. The design is to show evidence of construction design understanding and use of the most appropriate structural concepts, building systems, materials, technology and services.

Within the theme of ‘sustaining humanities’ - architecture for people,place and time, one key aspect of the design project is to develop holistic and integrated aspects of technology, environment and cultural context in architectural design.
To further develop scheme for Cultural and Innovation Center for Muar with the incorpo- ration of environmental strategies and technological resolutions, tectonic explora- tion and poetic design. At the same time get to know the culture and potentials of an aging town.
