MODULE OUTLINE//
SYNOPSIS
This module introduces fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings and modelling to prepare students with the skills required in Design projects. These skills are taught through a series of freehand, constructed drawing, and architectural modelling held both outdoors and in the studio.

PROJECT//01
On-site sketching & Tonal Values
For the first project of design communication, we were required to engage ourselves with the site by experiencing it through a spatial sequence of our choices. We were also had to record ours observation and perception of the spaces as well as human habitation of these spaces through free-hand sketches. The requirement that we had to capture are solid and voids, opening/aperture, rhythm in architecture, details, textural effects/materials, landscape/setting and scale and proportion.
As I'm not really good in sketching and this was the first time I did try and able to produce 4 - A4 sketches. Through this project I had learned to use ranges of hatching types with different medium while sketching such as cross-hatching, one directional hatching and stippling. Besides, I'm also able to understand the notion of space in architecture and developed the skills in visualizing of space through observation and perception of a given site.
PROJECT//2A
Orthographic projections
The second project is divided into two parts , part a and part b. We are to utilize the given images of a furniture (for Part A) and a building (for Part B) to be drawn up. By using the skills demonstrated and explained in tutorial sessions by our tutor.
PART A //
The given furniture that we need to draw is an architecture drafting table that in our studio. We were required to produce in pencil drawing at first on butter paper and ink it up for the final submission in A2 size tracing paper. The following evidence should be presented in this project is :
1.Top view
2.At least two selected side views
3. At least one section

PART B //
Started by making the model of the introduced building, ESHERICK HOUSE by American architect Louis Kahn. Commissioned by Margaret Esherick, it was completed in 1961. A draft out architectural drawing on butter paper as an evidence for this assignment then ink it up for the final submission on A2 tracing papers. We need to produced:
-1 ground floor plan
-4 elevations (front, back, left & right elevations)
-1 cross-section
-1 longitudinal section
-1 site plan (optional @ a smaller scale)
"All these drawings are in architectural scale 1:75"
PROJECT//2B
Axonometric projection
A fairly in-depth understanding of the architectural detail and spatial value of a building, we will learn how to execute an axonometric projection by generating partial of an external and a sectional (internal) axonometric of Esherick house. These projections will be generated at a scale of 1:75.
By refer to our previous orthographic drawings and the documents for measurements and information throughout this exercise. After constructed our drawing in pencil, we proceed to trace our final ink drawing on A1 tracing paper. We are required to submit an external axonometric and an exploded axonometric drawings.

REFLECTION//
Through this project 2 of drawing Esherick House , I have learned a lot to improve my drawing skills and that's very important to demonstrate the line types, line weights, line quality and hand lettering in pencil and ink medium. While proceeding to the axonometric projections I've lost because I don't understand how to draw it in 30,60 degrees but after my tutor; Ms.Alina explained and taught me only I realized it is actually not hard to draw axonometric projection as long as we understand what axonometric projections are. And also after perspectives drawing I'm have the ability to express the spatial ideas and architectural detail in three-dimension, also able to produce legible and architectural drawings with strong creative intent.
PROJECT//2C
Perspectives
For this project, we were required to construct perspective grids and perspectives on butter paper. Besides, we also had to render the one-point sectional perspective and two-point perspective. Before we construct the drawings, we had to understand the 2-D and 3-D relationships in architectural graphics, skills in drawing and composition, creatively and complexity of drawings. Also, the selection of space and exterior form is significant in order to produce a drawing that can communicate itself to others.

PROJECT//03
Finishing & Presentation
This last project is integrated with the final project of Architectural Design Studio 1- Dreamspace for Self. We were required to draft out orthographic drawings based on the dream space that we have designed, including the plans, elevations, sections and interior perspectives by referring to our 1:50 model as a guideline for the drawings. All drawings were presented as a part of the A2 presentation boards of the project.
